Copilot Insights on Reports
A Copilot insight is a short written read of the report you’re looking at: what the numbers say, what changed and what to do about it. Select Get AI Insight at the top of a report and Copilot writes it in a panel beside the report.
How It Works
Getting an Insight
- Open a report, or a segment’s page under Customer Segments.
- Set the date range and any filters you want read.
- Select Get AI Insight in the page header, beside the export controls.
A panel slides in from the right and Copilot starts writing at once. It looks up the report’s own numbers with the same calculations the report uses.
What the Insight Reads
Copilot reads the report as it’s set now: the date range, the segment, the sales channel, any advanced filters, and the tab you have open on reports with tabs. It doesn’t use a comparison period you’ve turned on.
On a segment’s page, it reads the segment’s customers, orders, sales and lifetime value.
What You Get Back
The insight is up to 300 words. It opens with a one- or two-sentence takeaway. Below that come the sections KPIs, Drivers, Insights, Recommendations and Risks.
KPIs, Drivers and Risks appear only when there’s something to say.
It uses only numbers Copilot looked up. When a report needs a connection you haven’t made, such as an ad platform, the insight says so instead of guessing.
It’s a Real Conversation
The insight starts a Copilot conversation titled “Copilot AI Insights for” and the report’s name. Ask follow-up questions in the panel, or choose Open in full chat to continue on the Copilot page. Choose Start new chat to ask for a fresh read of a changed date range.
Conversations belong to your store, so everyone on your team sees it in the Copilot list.
Reports Without the Button
Most reports offer an insight. These don’t:
- Marketing: Conversion Funnel, Store Conversion Rate, Traffic & Conversions, GA4 CPC Sessions and Klaviyo Performance.
- Sales: Sales Attributed to Marketing, Sales by Customer, Sales by Number of Orders,
Sales Distribution by Repeat Buyersand Sales by POS Location. - Sales by marketing: Sales by Marketing Campaign, Sales by Marketing Medium, Sales by Marketing Referral Source and Sales by Marketing Source.
- Shipping and operations: Duties Collected, Free-Shipping Threshold Analysis, Manual & Service Adjustments and Shipping Refund Consistency.
- Profitability: P&L and Unit Cost Coverage.
- Web Analytics: Journeys, Sessions Explorer and Visitor Retention.
- Benchmarking: Ads Benchmark and Stores Like Yours. These show a written summary on the page instead.
Visitor Geography offers the button on its country view only. Its regions and cities views don’t.
The Pulse page has no button either. Pulse writes its own story for each week and month.
When the Button Is Missing
The button doesn’t appear on any report, or on a segment’s page, when Copilot isn’t available to your store. The reports themselves are unchanged.
Monthly Messages
Every answer Copilot writes counts as one of your monthly Copilot messages, and an insight is an answer. Each follow-up answer counts too.
When the month’s messages run out, the button stays on the page. The panel shows a notice with a View Copilot AI Usage link, and Copilot writes nothing new until the count starts again. See Copilot for how the count works.
What It Means for You
Use an insight to get your bearings on a report you don’t read often, or to decide where to look next. Set the date range first, since the insight covers exactly that range.
Treat it as a starting point. Before you act on a number, check it on the report. Copilot is an AI, so check the numbers it cites.
Ask a follow-up when the insight names a driver. What Drove the Change explains how Copilot ranks the parts of your store that moved a measure.
