Bounce & Engagement Quality
Bounce & Engagement Quality shows how engaged your visitors are over time: how many leave after one event, how many events a session holds and how long sessions last.

How It’s Calculated
Each row of the table is one period. A period is an hour for a date range of up to 3 days, a day for up to 93 days, and a month beyond that. A session counts in the period where it started.
The columns are:
- Sessions: visits to your store.
- Bounce Rate: the share of sessions with only 1 event recorded. An event is any one thing das Pixel records, such as a page view, a product view, a search or an add to cart.
- Avg Events per Session: the average number of events in a session.
- Avg Session Duration: the average time from a session’s first event to its last. A session with 1 event lasts 0 seconds and still counts in the average.
Both bounce and duration are approximate. das Pixel doesn’t record scrolling or reading time. A visitor who reads one page for 5 minutes and leaves is a bounce with a duration of 0.
A visit ends after 30 minutes with no activity, or after the longer timeout you set in das Pixel Settings. A longer timeout makes sessions longer and fewer.
Summary Cards and Chart
The cards above the table are Bounce Rate, Avg Events per Session and Avg Session Duration. Each is an average across the date range, weighted by each period’s sessions. With Compare on, each shows its change.
The chart draws Bounce Rate per period. Switch it between a line, an area and bars. With Compare on, it adds the earlier period.
What Counts
- Visitors who declined analytics cookies, or who opted out of the sale or sharing of their data while Require Sale-of-Data Consent is on, aren’t recorded. Known bots are left out.
- Only events inside the date range count. A visit that starts before the range begins counts from its first event inside it.
- Periods follow your store’s time zone.
- Turn on Live to refresh the report every 30 seconds. Without it, a figure can be up to 10 minutes old.
This report has no Segment, Sales Channel or Filters control.
What Good Looks Like
There’s no target. Compare your bounce rate with your own earlier periods, and look for a change after a campaign or a site update.
A rise in Avg Events per Session with a steady Bounce Rate means visitors who stay do more.
What to Do About It
- A rising Bounce Rate: check what changed that day, such as a new campaign, a slow page or a changed link. Sessions by Source & Channel shows which channel’s bounce moved.
- A high Bounce Rate on your top landing pages: compare them in Entry Pages.
- Short sessions with no add to cart: look at your product pages in Pages.
