How to Connect Reddit Ads

Connecting Reddit Ads brings the spend, impressions and clicks of your Reddit campaigns into By the Numbers. It also lets you sync segments to Reddit as customer lists. You connect by signing in to Reddit and approving access; there’s no API key to copy.

Before You Start

You need a Reddit login that can reach your Reddit ad accounts.
You need the Manage integrations permission in By the Numbers. Without it, Connect, Configure and Remove don’t appear.

Steps

Open Integrations: Integrations, under Settings in the navigation.
On the Reddit Ads card, click Connect.
In the Reddit window, sign in and approve access.
Back in By the Numbers, Configure Reddit Ads opens with every ad account checked. Uncheck any you don’t want. Select All and Select None help with a long list.
Click Save.

If the message Reddit Ads: popup blocked appears, allow pop-ups for By the Numbers and click Connect again.

What Happens Next

The first sync fetches up to a year of campaigns and daily spend for the accounts you chose. How long it takes depends on how much history the accounts have. The card shows Syncing until it’s done.

After that, Reddit Ads syncs about every 3 days. Each sync reads at least the last 7 days again, so late changes to spend are picked up.

For each campaign, By the Numbers stores its name, status and objective. Each day it also stores the campaign’s spend, impressions and clicks. Reddit doesn’t send conversions or conversion value to By the Numbers.

Your Reddit spend then appears on Advertising and the Campaign Performance report, by campaign. Advertising leaves Reddit Ads out of the reported conversion figures: see Advertising.

Under Connected Account, the card names the Reddit account you signed in with, as a username that starts with u/. An older connection shows nothing there until you reconnect.

If You Didn’t Save the Accounts

Nothing syncs until you save which accounts to include. If you closed the dialog, the card shows Setup Required under Needs attention. Click Finish Setup to choose them.

Syncing Segments to Reddit Ads

Segments you sync to Reddit arrive as customer lists in the ad account you choose. Reddit gets each customer’s email address, hashed. How to Sync a Segment walks through it.

By the Numbers doesn’t check marketing consent for Reddit Ads. To leave out customers who don’t accept email marketing, add the rule Accepts email marketing to the segment.

Sending Conversions to Reddit Ads

A Reddit Ads connection made before das Pixel could send conversions doesn’t have the permission it needs. The card then sits under Needs attention, with a Reconnect to Enable Conversions button. Click it and approve access in the Reddit window.

Reconnecting keeps the ad accounts you chose. Your spend and segment syncs keep working either way.

If the Card Needs Attention

The card’s message tells you what’s wrong:

Setup Required: you closed the dialog before saving the accounts. Click Finish Setup.
Reconnect needed, with Reconnect to Enable Conversions: the connection lacks the permission das Pixel needs to send purchases. Click the button and approve access.
Reconnect needed, with Reconnect: Reddit no longer accepts your connection, for example because access was revoked. Click Reconnect and sign in again.

Without the Manage integrations permission, the card says it needs attention and asks you to find a teammate who has the permission.

Changing the Accounts

Click Configure on the Reddit Ads card, change the checkboxes, and click Save.

Unchecking an account deletes its stored campaigns and spend. How to Choose Which Ad Accounts Sync has the details.

Disconnecting Reddit Ads

Choose Remove from the menu at the top right of the card. This deletes the stored Reddit Ads campaigns and spend, and removes every segment sync to Reddit Ads. The customer lists already in Reddit stay as they are.

Removing the card also gives up By the Numbers’ access to your Reddit account.
