How to Send Conversions to Your Ad Platforms

Sending conversions lets das Pixel tell your ad platforms about the purchases that followed their ads. The purchase goes from By the Numbers’ servers, not the visitor’s browser, so ad blockers and browser tracking limits can’t stop the send. When you’re done, each purchase das Pixel can send goes to the platform of its most recent ad click.

Before You Start

  • das Pixel is connected, has recorded a visit, and has Track Checkout on. How to Connect das Pixel covers this.
  • You can send to Google Ads, Meta, TikTok and Reddit Ads.
  • Every step below needs the Manage integrations permission on your team. Without it, the checklist shows Ask an owner to finish setup, and you can follow progress but not change anything.

Steps

All of this happens in the setup checklist on the das Pixel page, under Send Conversions to Your Ad Platforms. Each platform has its own row of 5 steps.

  1. Connect: select Connect and sign in to the platform. Choose which ad accounts to sync if it asks.
  2. Grant Access: for Google Ads, select Grant Permission to let das Pixel send conversions. Other platforms ask you to reconnect only when a permission is missing.
  3. Choose Destination: pick where purchases go.
    • Google Ads: an ad account. das Pixel adds a conversion action named das Pixel Purchase to it.
    • Meta and TikTok: a pixel on an ad account you sync.
    • Reddit Ads: an ad account you sync.
  4. Switch On: select Switch On for the platform, then Start Sending to confirm. For Meta the step is Send With das Pixel, which makes das Pixel, not Shopify, the sender of your Meta purchases.

The last step, First Conversion Accepted, completes on its own once the platform accepts a purchase. Most platforms answer as the purchase is sent. Google Ads confirms afterward, and the checklist says it confirms within 24 hours.

Meta and Shopify’s Facebook & Instagram Channel

Shopify’s Facebook & Instagram channel can already send your purchases to Meta, which is why Meta asks who sends. When das Pixel sends, it uses the same event ID as the channel and the same pixel. That lets Meta match the 2 copies and count each purchase once.

If the channel sends to a different Meta pixel, the checklist warns you. Choose the channel’s pixel, since Meta can only match copies sent to the same one.

Google Ads

das Pixel Purchase is added to the Google Ads account you chose. In Google Ads, check whether it counts toward bidding, and how that fits with any other purchase conversion the account already counts.

What Happens Next

Which Purchases Are Sent

  • Online store orders with a recent paid click. das Pixel sends the order to the platform of its most recent paid click, dated by when the click happened. A click more than 30 days before the order isn’t sent.
  • Only to a platform you’ve switched on. An order whose click came from another platform isn’t sent anywhere.
  • Only with consent. A purchase is sent only when the checkout shows the customer allowed marketing. It isn’t sent when they opted out of the sale or sharing of their data.
  • Not Shop Campaigns clicks. Clicks on ads Shopify runs for you through Shop Campaigns are never sent.

This rule differs from the one das Pixel’s reports use, so the platform a report credits and the platform a purchase goes to can differ. das Pixel Attribution explains both.

Time Limits

  • Meta: das Pixel sends a purchase only within 36 hours of the order, so Meta can match it with the copy from Shopify’s channel. Meta itself accepts purchases up to 7 days old.
  • TikTok and Reddit Ads: up to 7 days after the order.
  • Google Ads: up to 90 days after the order.

A purchase that can’t be sent in time is skipped.

What Each Platform Receives

Every platform gets the order’s total in your store currency, its time, and the ad click ID. To help match the purchase to the click, each also gets some customer details. Hashed details are scrambled one way before they leave.

Platform Customer details
Google Ads Hashed email, phone and name, with country and postcode as they are
Meta Hashed email, phone, name, city, state, postcode, country and Shopify customer ID. The IP address, browser and Meta’s own browser cookie as they are
TikTok Hashed email, phone and Shopify customer ID
Reddit Ads Hashed email, phone, Shopify customer ID and IP address. The browser and Reddit’s own browser cookie as they are

Refunds

When a sent order is refunded, das Pixel tells Google Ads, Meta and TikTok. Reddit Ads has no way to receive refunds.

Switching a Platform Off

To stop sending to a platform, open its row in the setup checklist: select the row, or Edit once its setup is done. Switch it off under Settings, then select Stop Sending. Once setup is done, the checklist folds into the das Pixel Is Live bar, and selecting the bar opens it.

Purchases made while a platform is off are never sent, even after you switch it back on. Your ad platforms then see fewer conversions, and campaigns that bid on conversions have less to learn from.

If the checklist shows Sending Is Paused, By the Numbers has paused sending for your store. Purchases are recorded and not sent. Email support@bythenumbersapp.com to ask why.

Check What Was Sent

Open Delivery Diagnostics on the das Pixel page. Conversion Delivery accounts for every order from up to the last 28 days, once each. It shows which were sent or recorded, which were left out and why, which are still being worked out, and which das Pixel couldn’t match.

Disconnecting das Pixel stops all sending and clears these settings. das Pixel Settings explains what to set up again after you reconnect.
