Sales by POS Location
Sales by POS Location shows the orders and sales for each physical location where you take orders in person, so you can compare your stores.

How It’s Calculated
The table has one row for each location that took an order in the date range. The page has no chart. A pinned dashboard card of this report shows the 10 locations with the most Total Sales.
The columns are:
- Location: the location’s Shopify ID, as a number.
- Orders: the number of orders placed.
- Average Order Value: the location’s sales before returns, divided by its orders.
- Gross Sales: each item’s price times its quantity, before discounts, shipping, tax and returns.
- Discounts, Shipping and Tax: what Shopify records on those orders.
- Total Returned: money refunded on the location’s orders in the date range.
- Net Sales: Gross Sales minus Discounts, plus Shipping, minus Total Returned. It doesn’t add tax, so if your prices include tax, it still contains it.
- Total Sales: Gross Sales minus Discounts, plus Shipping and Tax, minus Total Returned.
What Counts
- An order is in the report only when Shopify records a physical location for it. Orders with none, such as online orders, aren’t in any row.
- Sales count on the day the order was placed. A refund counts on the day it was made, against the location of the original order. Refunds on orders placed more than 2 years before the start of the date range aren’t counted.
- Orders that were canceled, or whose payment was voided or expired, don’t count.
- A location with no orders in the date range doesn’t appear.
- Days follow your store’s time zone, and every amount is in your store’s currency.
- Segment and Filters narrow the report. The Sales Channel menu doesn’t. There’s no comparison period.
What Good Looks Like
There’s no right split between locations. A store in a busy area takes more orders than one in a quiet area.
Compare locations on Average Order Value and Total Returned next to Gross Sales, not on orders alone. A location with fewer orders but a higher average can be the stronger store.
What to Do About It
- A location falling behind: compare its Orders and Average Order Value with the others, to see whether it has fewer customers or smaller sales.
- A location with high returns: compare Total Returned with Gross Sales in its row.
- Staffing and stock: use the order counts to decide where to add staff, and the sales to decide where to send inventory.
- All your sales together: open Sales by Channel to see point of sale next to your other channels.
Where to Find It
