Most Abandoned Products

Most Abandoned Products lists the products that visitors added to the cart and then didn’t buy, with the value left behind. It shows what visitors leave in their carts.

The Most Abandoned Products report, with four summary cards, tabs for Product, Variant, SKU and Vendor and a table with one row per product.

How It’s Calculated

Each row is one product, with the most Abandoned sessions first, then the most Sessions Added. The table lists up to 200 rows. Use the Break Down By tabs to read the same list by Product, Variant, SKU or Vendor.

The columns are:

  • SKU and Product: what the row is. Which of these show depends on the tab.
  • Sessions Added: sessions that added the product to the cart.
  • Abandoned: sessions that added the product and never bought. This includes visitors who left before they started checkout.
  • Abandoned at Checkout: the part of Abandoned that also started checkout.
  • Abandonment Rate: Abandoned divided by Sessions Added.
  • Units Abandoned: the number of items added in the abandoned sessions.
  • Abandoned Value: the items added in the abandoned sessions times the price shown when they were added. It is before discounts, and it leaves out adds where the theme sent no price.

Every count is sessions, not events. A visitor who adds a product 3 times in one visit counts once.

A session counts as abandoned only when it bought nothing at all. A visitor who adds a product and buys another one didn’t abandon the first. das Pixel’s purchase event doesn’t list the items, so it can’t see the order’s contents.

On the SKU tab, a variant with no SKU still gets its own row, labeled by product and option. On the Vendor tab, products with no vendor are grouped as (no vendor).

Summary Cards

The cards above the table are Items, Sessions Added, Abandonment Rate and Abandoned Value. Items is the number of rows. The other 3 add up the rows, so a session that added 3 products counts 3 times in Sessions Added.

With Compare on, each card shows its change.

Pinned to a dashboard, the report can show a bar chart of the 10 rows with the most Abandoned Value.

What Counts

  • Visitors who declined analytics cookies, or who opted out of the sale or sharing of their data while Require Sale-of-Data Consent is on, aren’t recorded. Known bots are left out.
  • Only events inside the date range count, in your store’s time zone.
  • Turn on Live to refresh the report every 30 seconds. Without it, a figure can be up to 10 minutes old.

A warning shows above the report when das Pixel saw less than 70% of your online-store orders in the last 30 days. This report has no Segment, Sales Channel or Filters control.

What Good Looks Like

There’s no target. A product with a high Abandoned Value is where reminders and cart-page work pay back first.

A high Abandonment Rate doesn’t prove the product is the reason a visitor left. Shipping costs, a required account or a different item in the cart are all invisible here.

What to Do About It

  • A product with a high Abandoned Value: make sure its price, shipping cost and stock are clear on the product and cart pages.
  • A variant with a much higher rate than its siblings: check its price, stock and photos.
  • A cheap product with a high Abandonment Rate: check whether shipping costs more than the product.

Cart & Checkout Abandonment Value shows how many visits are abandoned over time.
